Player Profile: Garrett Dellinger
School: Clarkston
Hometown: Clarkston, MI
Personal Relationships: Garrett is the fifth of six kids in a family with collegiate athletes and military members. Garret’s parents played basketball at Cleveland State. His father works for the Department of Defense. He Facetimes with him regularly and he admires his sacrifice. His oldest brother, a Navy SEAL and former linebacker at Kent State, is his role model. If his brother can go through SEAL training, Garrett knows he “can finish an extra 100 yards.” His oldest sister joined the National Guard and Army and his other sister played volleyball as a grad transfer at Oakland University. His other older brother is in the National Guard and his younger brother plays football and basketball.
Having a big family has helped Garrett develop a thick skin with all the teasing and jokes. When another player is talking trash, he’s never bothered. Even with those jokes, his siblings fully protect each other, which translates to the field. Dellinger makes that clear with the motto “I can mess with my brother, but if you mess with my brother, that's not allowed.”
Key Quote: Garrett’s value of family and unity shines through when describing his love for playing on the offensive line, saying “I like when everyone comes together, just be able to work as one unit. That’s why I really like the offensive line because if one person breaks down, then the whole play breaks down.”
Social Media: Tweets are solely composed of support for teammates and thanking colleges for recruiting offers.
Off-the-Field: Garrett’s planning on using football to get a Business degree for whenever football ends. His teammate Rocco Spindler gave a view of how Garrett acts off the field saying “Garrett and I are two of the cleanest guys in school. We don’t go to parties after football games. We go home, ice up our battles scars and watch some film.” He doesn’t partake in any type of alcohol consumption, vaping, or drug use because that causes distractions.
