Player Profile: Matt Beniers
Team: U.S. National Team Development Program Juniors (USHL)
Hometown: Hingham, MA
Personal Relationships: Matt’s father, Bob, and brother, Bobby played a major role in getting him on the right path in his hockey career. His father, a former Cornell University football player, got him on the ice at 18 months old and coached him for 11 years. His brother plays hockey at Williams College and Matt views him as a role model. His brother is only 5-foot-2 so he admires how he has to fight for everything and just “puts his head down, works hard, and continues to find ways to be successful.” His family was extremely proud of Matt earning his spot with the USA National Team Development Program, knowing he had worked his entire life to get there and it would give him the chance to further his growth.
Key Quote: Matt knows he’s still got a long way to go in his development, saying “I definitely have a lot to improve upon in my game and it is going to be a long road for me to get to where I want to go. I’m excited to work on my strength and my skills. I have to keep improving if I want to take the next step.”
Social Media: Social media mostly consists of pictures of him with his teammates, friends, brother, and sister Gianna.
Off-the-Ice: He understands how playing for team USA is bigger than him, and what it means to the country, saying “It’s been surreal to represent my country at this age. There are so many people who would love this opportunity so I’m very appreciative of it." He also likes to fish and watches the TV show, the Bachelor.
